Former NFL CB Richard Sherman: 'Dak makes too much money,' for there to be QB controversy in Dallas

Former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman explained there is no quarterback controversy in Dallas, due to Dak Prescott's costly contract. "This isn't a QB controversy because Dak (Prescott) makes too much money," Sherman said Tuesday during his podcast.

Prescott's deal pays, making him the eighth-highest paid quarterback in the NFL, per Spotrac. Prescott earns $126 million guaranteed. It also protects him in the long-term because he has five years left on his deal.

If the Cowboys suddenly released Prescott, they would have to pay him more than $108 million. The only way to avoid this is trading him, which probably won't happen. Even though Rush has prevented the Cowboys ship from sinking, he's only started three games in his career.

Rush is making an impression though. Sherman speculated this could become an opportunity.

"Cooper Rush is making himself some money right now," the Super Bowl champion said.

Teams are desperate for starting quarterbacks, they often chuck a contract that is worth millions to a backup who shined. In 2019 the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Nick Foles to a four-year $88 million deal.  Foles led the Eagles to a Super Bowl in 2018, after starter Carson Wentz suffered a season-ending ACL tear.

Rush has one year left on his contract.

Jerry Jones said, "he has the makeup of a top quarterback," perhaps he will prove he could be one before Prescott comes back. Prescott will sit out this Sunday against the Commanders with a fractured right thumb.
