UPDATE: Oshkosh Area School District says busing will return to normal Friday, expectations for future

THURSDAY, 9/29/22 – 12:58 p.m.

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – The Oshkosh Area School District (OASD) has provided an update on whether or not students will be able to take the bus to school on Friday, September 30.

According to the OASD, busing to and from school will resume as normal tomorrow, after travel was discontinued on Thursday due to catalytic converter thefts of Kobussen’s school bus fleet.

Officials sat that Kobussen is able to shift its buses that serve other school districts that are not in session on Friday.

Kobussen is working to repair its buses, and busing is expected to continue as normal next week.

According to Winnebago County Patrol Captain Greg Cianciolo, 11 converters were stolen from the Oshkosh terminal on Tuesday night and 27 converters on Wednesday night with an additional 4 from its Vinland terminal. He also says, “Based on the 2 incidents with Kobussen buses over the last two nights, we have collected a lot of evidence and have several leads that we are following up on.”

Original Story: Catalytic converter thefts deplete school bus fleet in Oshkosh, no busing today

THURSDAY, 9/29/22 – 9:42 a.m.

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – Catalytic converter thefts have dramatically impacted Kobussen’s entire Oshkosh terminal, leaving children and families with no busing to or from school on Thursday.

According to the Oshkosh Area School District (OASD), Kobussen’s catalytic converter thefts first caused a delay for OASD busing on Wednesday, but even more thefts occurring overnight have left both the school district and Kobussen without viable transport for the area.

Families that receive busing were informed of this situation early on Thursday morning and were asked to make other plans to get their children to and from school.

While Kobussen had made every effort to resume regular busing for the OASD today, additional catalytic converter thefts occurred overnight. This is an unfortunate situation and the OASD appreciates all that Kobussen is doing to manage and problem-solve. The OASD also understands this is a significant inconvenience for families that receive and rely on district transportation for their children. Continued understanding and patience are appreciated.
