(WWJ) Michigan's Upper Peninsula has been named the best destination in the U.S. to view the changing leaves of fall.

The honor was given to the U.P. by USA Today, which held four weeks of online voting to determine that the area is the nation's best fall foliage destination for 2022.

U.P. Travel issued the following statement on its website in response to news of the title:

"It was an incredible honor to be among the 20 beautiful destinations nominated throughout the country as fall foliage destinations. But it's even better to take home first place! This is especially true because the votes came from USA Today readers and Upper Peninsula fans like yourself.

"Whether you’ve marveled at the U.P.'s fall color palette in person or in photos from afar and voted, we could not have done this without you. Thank you for casting votes daily on our behalf!"

The Upper Peninsula was also named the nation's top destination to view colorful fall leaves in 2018 and 2020.

Coming in at #2 this year was Taos, New Mexico, with Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania grabbing the #3 spot. See USA Today's full Top 10 list for 2022 HERE.
