Jojo, the food cart known for its fried chicken sandwiches and extra crispy potato wedges, opened its first brick-and-mortar location this month in downtown Portland’s Pearl District.

Update: Jojo the restaurant’s secret sauce? Building around what made the cart great (review)

The new spot on the corner of Northwest 13th Avenue and Kearney Street still serves its double-fried potato wedges and various styles of fried chicken sandwiches and smash burgers. But it added a full bar and rotating dessert menu.

Fried chicken sandwich offerings include options like the “Southern,” a more classic take on a chicken sandwich, which is topped with jojo sauce, coleslaw and pickles. Or there’s the “Mr. Onion,” which might challenge your breath. It’s served with chipotle mayo, caramelized onions, white onions, Tillamook cheddar cheese, fried shallots, chives, pickles and butter. And if you’re not into fried chicken, their smash burgers come with similar toppings.

You can order their signature jojos plain (and tossed in a house spice blend) or loaded with toppings like caramelized onions, American cheese and jojo sauce.

The new drink menu lists creative cocktails, flavored sodas (like cherry limeade and Coke) and boozy milkshakes. There’s also a rotating dessert menu. We tried a pavlova: a vanilla bean meringue topped with cola-macerated cherries, key lime curd and lime leaf powder. The dessert is named after Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova.

Jojo the food truck operates in a food cart pod next to John’s Marketplace off Southeast 35th and Powell. Owner Justin Hintze said the cart on Powell will be closed for a few weeks to focus on the restaurant.
