HE IS MONITORING THE LATEST FROM VOLUSIA COUNTY. JASON: WE ARE GETTING UPDATES ON THAT 72-YEAR-OLD MAN WHO DIED. ROUGHLY 1:00 THIS MORNING DURING THE STORM, HE WAS LOOKING TO DRAIN HIS POOL, A PORT -- LOOKING TO DRAIN HIS POOL, ACCORDING TO HIS WIFE. SHE MADE THE CALL BECAUSE HE DIDN’T COME BACK INSIDE THE HOME. DEPUTIES SAY THEY FOUND HIS BODY IN CAN NOW BEHIND THE HOUSE. A Deltona man died overnight after he ventured outside during Hurricane Ian.According to Volusia County Sheriff's Office, the 72-year-old man went outside during the storm to drain his pool.Investigators believe he was using a hose to drain the pool down a hill and into a 30-foot-wide canal, where a steep decline into the water was extremely soft and slippery due to the heavy rain.The man's wife called deputies to their home on Poinciana Lane near Lake Bethel around 1 a.m. after he didn't return from outside. While searching for him, deputies found his flashlight, then spotted him unresponsive in the canal.First responders tried to revive the man, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
