Gangsta's Paradise is a classic that sounds as good today as it did then. Always had a soft spot for C U When U Get There too.

    RIP Coolio.

Nice tribute to Coolio from Michelle Pfeiffer, who featured sat opposite him in the Gangsta's Paradise video, and starred in the film Dangerous Minds, which featured the song

Gangsta's Paradise is timeless. Sounds as fresh today as it did the very first time I heard it.

    Rest in peace Coolio.

Such sad news. I actually listened to a podcast discussing the impact of Gangsta’s Paradise and Coolio’s life in general just a few weeks ago.
Michelle Pfeifer’s tribute is lovely. It’s true that Gangsta’s Paradise remains one of the most iconic songs and music videos of the 90s.

In terms of the UK charts, Gangsta's Paradise was the first hip hop song to break commercial success that would then become consistent during the latter part of the 90's and early 00's with Eminem, Dr Dre and then Nelly and 50 Cent. I also liked him when he first appeared on Big Brother with Terry Christian.

Rapper’s Delight was a hit in the uk in the 70s.

Yes, but it not pave the way for consistent success in terms of hip hop/rap music within the UK charts.

I'm surprised it hasn't entered the BBC Radio 1 chart yet, or at least it didn't on Friday. I was in a pub in Pontefract yesterday with my family and a family friend, and that song was played whilst I was in there.

Maybe he died too late in the week for many posthumous sales to help Coolio back up the charts.

I can’t say I necessarily agree, but I do think it’s a shame they became bigger. Coolio made better music imo.
