An off-duty Oklahoma City police officer was killed in a crash early Thursday morning on Interstate 44.
Police said they received a call shortly after 12:30 a.m. about a crash on I-44 near Southwest 44th Street. An off-duty officer was reportedly heading north on the interstate when police said a southbound vehicle swerved left, went over the center guardrail and hit the officer's vehicle head-on.
"We learned that one of the involved drivers was one of our officers who unfortunately was pronounced deceased," Capt. Valerie Littlejohn said.
The Oklahoma City Police Department identified the officer as Sgt. Meagan Burke, 31. She joined the department in May 2016.
Police told KOCO 5 that the officer was heading home when the other vehicle hit her.
Numerous law enforcement officers escorted Burke's body to the Medical Examiner's Office after the crash.
Police said the person driving the other vehicle was injured and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Oklahoma City Police Department and Oklahoma Highway Patrol are investigating.
