A man appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court last week and pled guilty to charges against him, including terroristic threatening.

Thirty-nine-year-old Thomas Montgomery, Jr., was put on probation for three years.

Montgomery was arrested in late April when Baxter County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home along County Road 1419.

MADE THREATS

A caller at the residence said there was a person needing medical attention who was also being combative.

Shortly after the initial report, a second call came in that Montgomery had threatened to kill everyone in the residence and had access to guns and knives if he decided to make good on his threats.

FAMILY MEMBERS FLEE

As the first deputy arrived on scene, several family members, including two children, were exiting the home and running across the road.

When the deputy entered the residence and observed Montgomery’s behavior, he wrote that the suspect was apparently “having a bad experience” with drugs.

As the house was being cleared and a search for weapons was underway, Montgomery “kept cussing and shouting threats.”

A small rifle was found on a table. A relative advised Montgomery had “small handguns stashed everywhere.”

THREATENS EMT’s

As emergency medical personnel attempted to get information from Montgomery by talking to him from a spot just outside the room he was in, Montgomery shouted a threat to blow their heads off.

After a second deputy arrived, it was noticed that Montgomery had a large hunting knife on his person and the two deputies and a relative took the knife.

There were also several knives found in Montgomery’s pockets.

While Montgomery was being taken to the Baxter County jail, his mood was reported to have gone through a series of changes, but he was said to have remained verbally combative during the trip.

By the time Montgomery had been dressed out in a jail uniform he was said to have “displayed no more combativeness.”

Montgomery was sentenced under provisions of Act 346, meaning if he stays out of trouble while on probation, he can apply to the court to have his record sealed.
