A new day spa opened this month in Greenport’s Sterlington Commons, taking the place of what was once a long-established nail salon.
After serving the Greenport area for a decade, Suki’s Spa closed its doors this past February, creating a window of opportunity for the owner’s niece, Annie Kim.
Kim, who’s been running the Scarlett Rose Mindful Beauty Salon in Sag Harbor since 2012, decided to expand her business and take over the Greenport property. On September 1, The Scarlett Rose Mindful Day Spa opened for business and is already drawing in people from across the North Fork and Shelter Island.
“Everyone is super happy that we’re finally open,” said manager Melissa Martin. “I think everyone was a little disappointed when Suki’s closed.”
Customers old and new will find that the new business is still a reliable spot for mani-pedis, and much more. Body treatments, facials, waxing, and massages are some of the spa’s offerings.
“We definitely have taken the space to the next level,” explained Martin.
When guests enter the spa, they’re greeted by calming music and a warm cup of organic tea. Flowy white curtains divide the nail station from the lounge, an airy space surrounded by shelves of beauty products like all-natural body scrubs and jelly cleansers. A small boutique at the front of the store also houses a selection of products for sale.

“We pride ourselves on natural ingredients,” explained Martin. As an Aveda partner salon, the spa mostly uses Aveda products, which contain naturally derived ingredients.
At back of the spa is a full hair salon where customers can get a simple blowout or arrange to have their hair styled for special occasions. The spa is also available for larger parties. Recently, it hosted its first bachelorette party — a day of massages, facials, cheese, and wine. Guests can choose from a variety of facial treatments, including Geneo and Sorella facials.
“We have so much space, which is great,” said Martin, who explained that the spa’s layout makes it easy to host small events. “Everyone says it’s such a huge transformation.”
There are a few elements of the recently renovated space that need to come together, like its steam sauna room, which will soon have a working shower. The spa is also expecting a shipment of massage chairs, which will be placed at the pedicure station.
“We still are missing some of our final touches, but they will come,” said Martin.
