LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – An investigation by officers with the La Follette Police Department that began back in the summer is about to come full circle at Tuesday’s City of La Follette Beer Board meeting.

“We received complaints that the employees of The Quick Shop were selling alcohol to minors, and that prompted our department to conduct an operation,” said Det.-Sgt. Matthew Forsyth. The Det.-Sgt., along with Chief Steve Wallen, a captain at the time, supplied a confidential source (CS) with cash to make a purchase as well as using an audio-video digital recording device. The CS is over the age of 18 though he is us under the legal age of 21 to purchase beer.

Forsyth outlines in his report that the CS entered the store, the former Kenny’s Pioneer, and purchased two Miller Light beers from the alleged offender Rajeshkumar M. Patel. “Patel did not ask for any identification,” said Forsyth.

According to the report from the LPD, Patel and the owner/beer permit holder Jayantibhai P. Patel face charges of alcohol/sales to minors prohibited. Jayantibhai P. Patel was cited due to being the beer permit holder.

Based on the agenda set for Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting for the City of La Follette Mayor and Council, the Beer Board is expected to issue a violation notice to the Quick Shop Market at 1708 East Central Avenue. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/29/2022-6AM)
