PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters were called early Thursday morning to the area of W. Garden and S. Idaho for a report of smoke in a residence.
First crews on scene found a working fire in the back of the home with flames showing from the rear and side windows.
Fire Battalion Chief Scott Strum said crews searched the home for victims, and checked for fire extension finding none.
Two occupants of the home evacuated before crews arrived.
The fire was contained to one room and was put out within about 20 minutes. The rest of the home suffered heavy heat and smoke damage.
AMT took the two occupants of the home to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
A Board-Up crew secured the home.
No firefighters injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage was estimated at $85,000.
