Springfield police investigating Central St. shooting

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police are investigating after one person was shot in an incident late Wednesday night in the city’s South End.

According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, at around 10:30 p.m. officers were called to a report of a shooting on the 0-100 block of Central Street. When officers arrived they found 25-year-old Joel Laporte being held down by two men by the back door of an apartment. The two men told officers that Laporte was responsible for shooting another man. The victim was provided first aid and taken to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries but expected to be okay.

The investigation revealed that Laport knew the victim and allegedly followed him into his apartment and shot him. The two men then tackled Laporte and held him until officers arrived.

A gun was seized and Laporte was arrested on the following charges:
