Hornet 7th wins 24-8 at Brownsville

The HCMS 7th grade football team earned a road win when they traveled to Brownsville on Sept. 20. The Hornets beat Edmonson County 24-8.

Tyrone Hurley showed his speed when he broke free for a 42-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Hancock County led 8-0 after a successful conversion on a pass from Nolan Maxwell to Hurley.

Grant Smith increased the lead for HCMS when he scored on a 22-yard TD run in the second. He also scored the 2-point conversion and the advantage was 16-0 at intermission.

Edmonson County had a drive that resulted in a 1-yard TD run in the third.

The Hornets put the game away with the game’s final TD in the fourth. Maxwell got the call and he plunged in from a yard out for the score. Noah Tindle converted the 2-point try.

Smith ran for 81 yards on nine carries, while Hurley ran once for 42 yards. Leland Wilson ran four times for 28 yards, Tindle gained three yards and Maxwell gained one.

 

Wilson completed one pass for 24 yards. Kohen Chappell made the catch.

Hurley led the defense with 10 total tackles. Smith and Wilson made seven stops each, Sebastian Meserve made five tackles, Isiaha Hill and Scott Mayes made four each, George Miles, Roger Roach and Avery Schraner all made two each, while Tindle, Landis Pate, Aiden Haycraft, Maxwell, Trenton Shultz, Camdyn Harper, Noah Wedding, Chappell, Kaiden Severs and Eli Simms all made one tackle each.
