SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Sarasota Bradenton International Airport was heavily damaged Wednesday after Hurricane Ian moved across Florida.
News Channel 8 reporter Mahsa Saeidi went to the airport and saw heavy roof damage. What appeared to be a roof lining was dangling outside the ticketing area.
Pieces of the ceiling were scattered across the inside of the airport. There was also some slight flooding inside the airport due to the roof damage.
In an interview on Thursday, the airport’s CEO Rick Piccolo told News Channel 8 the ticketing area was heavily damaged and took on a lot of water. He said the computers were fine since they were covered up.
Piccolo also said some hangers were damaged, but crews have not been able to survey it yet.
The airport hopes to have the ticketing area cleaned up and open on Friday. You can watch the full interview above.
