Massachusetts man used Uber to deliver fentanyl across state lines: feds

A Massachusetts man ordered an Uber to drive him across state lines to deliver fentanyl before authorities squashed his potential drop-off, according to federal prosecutors.

Johan Rodriguez, 37, allegedly used the ride-sharing service to travel from Lawrence, Massachusetts over to Dover, New Hampshire, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the District of New Hampshire.

Rodriguez is accused of attempting to deliver ten kilograms of the deadly drug for a Lawrence-based drug supplier, prosecutors said.

The trip between the two New England cities takes close to an hour and is about 50 miles apart.

Rodriguez rode in the Uber to the New Hampshire home Tuesday before he allegedly grabbed a toolbox and tool bag from the vehicle’s trunk.

Law enforcement then intercepted him as he walked to the door, prosecutors said. When authorities searched the toolbox they seized ten kilos of fentanyl that were packed in individual bundles, the US Attorney’s Office said.

Rodriguez faces one count of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute and to distribute fentanyl, US Attorney Jane E. Young said.
