Another Baltimore city council hearing with the Department of Public Works is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
At issue is the Department of Public Works (DPW) response to the Labor Day weekend E. coli water contamination scare. City Councilman Isaac "Yitzy" Schleifer, who represents Northwest Baltimore and is chairman of the council's Rules and Legislative Oversight Committee, has said he will continue to have hearings until all of his concerns and questions have been addressed by DPW.
Residents are also looking for the agency to be held accountable. Some of them are still unsure about the quality of the tap water in their homes, nearly a month after the contaminated water scare that was mainly concentrated in parts of West Baltimore.
"Should I drink the water, is it gonna make me sick?" asked one man in the Harlem Park neighborhood.
"I will not drink that water," said Velma Washington. "But I bathe in it and that scares me now. If you get a rash you don't know if that's coming from the water."
DPW said they first tested the water during routine testing on Sept. 2, with three positive test results over the weekend.
It wasn't until 7:43 a.m. on Sept. 5 that the public was told on Twitter and Nextdoor. After that, DPW did not post an update for nearly nine hours.
Thursday's hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. at City Hall.
