Somehow, some way, the New York Mets have run into an attendance problem.

Yes, you read that right.

In the middle of a pennant race, where the Mets have a chance to lock down their first NL East title since 2015 after clinching a postseason berth, the team is struggling to draw a respectable crowd.

Last night’s attendance number was quite shocking.

According to Anthony DiComo, the Mets’ MLB.com reporter, the announced attendance for last night’s game against the Miami Marlins was just 29,067, with him even acknowledging that the crowd looked even more sparse than that.

He also mentioned that since Labor Day, the Mets have only reached 30,000 in attendance once, with that being a Gary Cohen bobblehead night.

Mets Struggling To Draw A Crowd

This is concerning, especially in the middle of a pennant race.

You’d think that fans would want to get down to the ballpark whenever possible to see their Mets put up a fight and try and capture the NL East crown.

But even with the Mets playing solid baseball and closing in on 100 wins, the team is struggling to draw a decent sized crowd.

That’s not what you want this time of the year, and it’s quite a concerning trend the Mets have going.

One would hope that the attendance numbers are better for the postseason, which should be the case.

For last night’s game against the Marlins and other games though, the Mets’ attendance numbers have not been good, and that’s something that should not go unnoticed by the front office.
