Ravens legend Terrell Suggs on Lamar Jackson contract situation: 'Very uncharacteristic for Baltimore'

Lamar Jackson is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. In a young crop of quarterbacks featuring the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen, Jackson is arguably the best.

Still, he's now three weeks into the 2022 NFL season and he's yet to receive a contract extension from the Baltimore Ravens. Jackson is set to be a free agent at the end of this season, but Baltimore has yet to commit long-term to the 2019 NFL MVP.

Seven-time Pro Bowler and future Hall of Fame linebacker Terrell Suggs played 16 seasons with the Ravens from 2003 to 2018. He's one of the legends of the franchise and had a long and fruitful career in Baltimore.

One would think he knows this front office well and is rather familiar with how owner Stephen Bisciotti operates. Interestingly enough, Suggs feels the lack of a contract for Jackson and this whole situation, in general, is not the norm.

"It's very uncharacteristic for Baltimore. The organization is known for taking care of its guys," Suggs said on "First Things First." "I never went this deep. I had a franchise tag year. You know, it's all part of the business. Usually a deal is going to get done."

Suggs clearly believes in Jackson, and one would think the Ravens do as well. Suggs seems to believe it comes down to Jackson's asking price more than anything else.

"It's not Lamar's fault that they're giving out guaranteed contracts to quarterbacks now, and he's the best one," Suggs said.

"This is his year. He's improved. Every time they try to discredit Lamar as a quarterback he just proves them wrong. They can't win without him. The offense that he's in, he dominates that. What more do you want him to do? He already played for it and it's costing you more you might as well get it done."

For what it's worth, Spotrac projects Jackson's market value at six years, $261.1 million dollars.
