The rapper, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr., was found dead in his friend’s bathroom, his manager told TMZ.

An official cause of death has not yet been determined.

Coolio was born in Pennsylvania, but got his start making music in the burgeoning L.A. hip-hop scene in the late 80s.

He didn’t find mainstream success until signing to Tommy Boy Records in 1994 and dropping the number-one hit “Gangsta’s Paradise” for the 1995 movie “Dangerous Minds.”
