NAMPA - An 18-year-old Nampa man is in custody after police say he fired a shot at an officer Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Nampa Police Department, police responded to the 1900 block of 1st Street N. in Nampa shortly after 1:00 p.m. attempting to serve a battery warrant on 18-year-old Jaden Andres Martinez. Upon the arrival of police, Martinez reportedly exited the residence and fled on foot into a nearby field after firing one round from a firearm at one of the pursuing officers.

According to the Nampa Police Department, the shot fired did not hit the officer, and he was uninjured.

After Martinez fled on foot, officers set up a perimeter around the field Martinez ran into and the Nampa Police Tactical Response Team (TRT) was called to the scene.

TRT officers, along with Nampa Police K-9 officers, searched the area within the perimeter and located Martinez hiding in a ravine along the field. With the help of one of the NPD K-9s, Martinez was taken into custody without further incident.

Martinez was arrested on the battery warrant, and will face additional charges, including shooting at a law enforcement officer.

During the incident, two nearby schools were placed in hall check to ensure safety on both campuses.Â
