The City of Hoover announced Tuesday it is extending the Hoover Met Complex RV Lot as a place of refuge for those who evacuated Florida due to Hurricane Ian.
The city said all RV phone reservations made for evacuees will be completely free.
"The City of Hoover is known for its hospitality and Mayor Brocato wants to welcome all Hurricane Ian evacuees with open arms," said General Manager Shannon Ealy. "We want to be good community partners and do whatever we can to help lighten the burden for those facing this difficult time."
Florida resident Russ Baird says this isn't the first hurricane he's experiences but it is the first one him and his family have had a place like the Hoover Met to stay.
"We were amazed. We went ahead and made reservations," said Baird, "After we got here they called us and offered us stay no charge.”
He says he has spoken with his neighbors back home. The damage is already severe.
"I’m in constant contact with people that are still back home it’s hitting our area pretty hard. We’re in the Bonita Springs area and that area is really flooding, We’re getting a lot of wind damage as soon as we speak,” said Baird, "We’re safe. That’s the important thing.”
The Hoover Met RV lot includes power, water, and sewer hookups. The reservations will be first come, first served for all evacuees. The RV lot is conveniently located near restaurants and shopping and is easily accessible to the interstate. All evacuees are asked to call and make a reservation instead of doing so online to ensure they get the free rate. To make your reservation, please call 205-739-7363 or guest services at 205-739-7364.
