An Escanaba man has been arrested on six charges of aggravated child sexually abusive activity.
Michigan State Police arrested 20-year-old Joseph Andrew Gavlek after receiving a tip from the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children. He is charged with using a computer to commit a crime and distributing or promoting the distribution of sexually-related material. He was arraigned in 94th District Court on Thursday, Sept. 22.
Gavlek faces up to 15 years in prison for the child sexually abusive activity and 10 years for using a computer to commit a crime.
During a search of Gavlek’s home, State Police say multiple internet capable devices and other evidence was seized.
The MSP Computer Crimes Unit encourages parents to speak to their children about the safe use of the internet and shared a number of resources available to help parents keep kids safe online.
