Hundreds of crews from all across the country have gathered at the FPL processing site to discuss plans and prepare to respond as needed.

“It’s in situations like this that we realize how significant it is,” DeSantis said. “Their efforts are going to make things a lot better for a lot of people than they otherwise would.”

DeSantis said he understands that restoration after the storm is not going to be a 48-hour deal.

This could have impacts that last for days, weeks, months and even years in some cases.

He also said roads need to be kept clear of debris so crews can get to their destination safely, and bridges need to be kept safe.

“This is a major, major event,” DeSantis said. “It’s going to be a tragic event in many ways.”

DeSantis said millions of people across the state will experience a power outage from Hurricane Ian.
