Topgolf in Louisville: Staff talks hiring blitz, 'unique' features of site

TO THAT FINISH LINE. IT’S BEEN MONTHS AND YEARS IN THE MAKING, BUT WE ARE NOW GETTING CLOSER TO THE OPENING OF TOPGOLF IN LOUISVILLE. GLADYS BATTISTA SPOKE TO REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE COMPANY ABOUT THEIR EFFORTS. RIGHT NOW TO GET EVERYTHING READY FOR THE GRAND OPENING. GLADYS, DID THEY FINALLY SAY WHEN THOSE DOORS WILL OPEN. WELL, VICKIE, JENNIFER, THAT IS THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION AND I ASKED AND THEY WERE ONLY ABLE TO SAY THAT IT SHOULD OPEN BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS. NOW, I KNOW I DID ASK WHAT HOLIDAY THAT WAS, THANKSGIVING OR CHRISTMAS. THEY WEREN’T ABLE TO TELL ME, BUT THEY SAY THAT THIS IS A MONUMENTAL EFFORT TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN THEY FINALLY DO OPEN, IT GOES OFF WITHOUT A HITCH. NOW YOU CAN SEE BEHIND ME, CONSTRUCTION CREWS ARE STILL HARD AT WORK AS THEY WERE THIS WHEN WE CAME HERE. NOW, REPRESENTATIVES SAY THAT THIS IS AN EFFORT THAT’S GOING TO TAKE A LOT OF PEOPLE AND THERE’S GOING TO BE SOME NEW FEATURES THAT YOU’RE GOING TO BE EXCITED TO HEAR ABOUT, TO. FROM THE GROUND ALL THE WAY UP. AND NOW TO THE INSIDE, WE HAVE THREE ROWS OF HEATERS OVER EACH OF OUR BAYS, WHICH WILL WARM IT UP ABOUT 20, 25 DEGREES IN THE BAY ITSELF. SO FOR THE U OF L FANS THAT WANT TO WATCH THEIR GAME HERE, WE CAN HAVE LOOK DOWN OVER HERE AND EVERYBODY CAN JOIN WATCH IN THE SAME SCREEN AND HAVING FUN. HIRING MANAGERS HERE HAVE OVER 500 NEW POSITIONS TO FILL BEFORE THE BIG OPENING DAY. AND ALL SPECTRUMS FROM OUR HOURLY MANAGERS ARE ADMIN WAITERS, COOKS, BUZZERS, BARTENDERS, SERVERS, DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS HOLLY PATERNAL SAYS THEY’VE HIRED ABOUT 30 SO FAR, BUT WITH SERVICE INDUSTRY, STAFFING ISSUES ARE CONCERN THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY, THEY ARE GETTING SOME HELP. THE LEVELS THAT WE’VE BEEN ABLE TO PULL WITH DIFFERENT MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY, DIFFERENT CHAMBERS WITH THE EDC HAS BEEN GREAT. WE JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DO EVERYTHING THAT WE POSSIBLY CAN TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN WE PROMISE YOU A DATE, THAT IS THE DATE AND THERE’S NO OTHER WAY AROUND IT. NOW, AS MENTIONED, THEY’VE HEARD ABOUT 30 PEOPLE AS OF NOW, BUT THEY SAY THERE’S STILL ABOUT 20 HIRING EVENTS TO GO BEFORE THAT GRAND OPENING. The first Topgolf in Louisville is nearing completion and getting closer to opening. Topgolf representatives announced a hiring blitz Wednesday to fill 500 positions for the 65,000-square-foot entertainment venue they say will be open before the holidays. "In all spectrum's, hourly managers, our administrators, cooks, bartenders, servers," Topgolf director of operations Hollie Patierno said. "The levers that we've been able to pull with different members of the community, different chambers, with the EDC have been great plus our management team. Fourteen of our 20 salaried managers are from the area so there's a lot of local connections which really helps to build up those 500 that we need."Patierno said about 30 people have been hired so far after their first hiring event that took place on Tuesday. The company has 20 more scheduled hiring events before the grand opening, Patierno said. "It can split its screen into about nine different components or be a full picture so for the UofL fans that want to watch their game here, we can have UK down over here and everybody be conjoined watching the same screen and having fun," Brenda Johnson with Topgolf said. The Louisville location will also have a unique feature for the region."An RF chip that is in each golf ball and as a player hits their golf ball, they can actually see the trajectory of that golf ball and how far it went," Johnson said.
