Mainers with electric cars, heat pumps eligible for power bill discount

AUGUSTA (WGME)— The Maine Public Utility Commission has reached an agreement with utility suppliers to offer a discount to Mainers using clean energy instead of fossil fuels.

Mainers who drive electric vehicles, own heat pumps, or other energy storage technologies will be eligible for a discounted power bill.
"We will continue to work in the months and years ahead to find ways to help support this transition to a clean energy future and be mindful to find ways to make it affordable for people," Maine PUC Chair Phil Bartlett said.

It is unclear how much customers will save but more details will be made available on the Maine PUC website.
