A 19-year-old is in custody after two people were injured in a shooting inside a Chelsea home Wednesday afternoon.
Police identified the suspect as Nicholas Tyler Hardin. He is being charged with two counts of assault in the first degree and is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $60,000.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. on Brandy Circle off County Road 39 near Chelsea Middle School.
The sheriff's office said one of the people shot was a female who was shot in the abdomen. The second person was a male who was shot in the thigh.
The sheriff's office said both were transported to UAB and were stable as of Thursday evening.
The 19-year-old suspect was described by law enforcement as having a "family relationship" with the people who were shot.
"I'm incredibly proud of our patrol deputies for taking quick action, securing our area schools, apprehending the suspect, and making the scene safe to render aid," Sheriff John Samaniego stated. "Our investigators will continue to work diligently to ensure all facts in this case are brought to light."
