Arizona Cardinals WR A.J. Green doubtful to play vs. Panthers

Sep 28, 2022, 12:05 PM

TEMPE — The Arizona Cardinals will likely be without one of their primary pass catchers when they take on the Carolina Panthers in Week 4.

After missing practice Wednesday, wideout A.J. Green’s status does not look promising for the matchup.

“Looks doubtful unless he really, really comes around,” head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Wednesday. “Probably not going to be available.”

Green sustained a bone bruise in the team’s Week 3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The wide receiver was slow to get up or needed assistance to the sideline more than once before exiting.

With Green out, the Cardinals turned to wide receiver Andy Isabella in his absence against Los Angeles. That could be the case once more given the amount of injuries impacting the WR room.

Rondale Moore has yet to play a game this season due to a hamstring injury, while Antoine Wesley started the year on the injured reserve for a groin/hip issue suffered in training camp. Then there’s DeAndre Hopkins, who remains sidelined by a six-game suspension for violating the league’s PED policy.

Luckily for Arizona, Moore appears to be trending up after practicing in a limited fashion on Wednesday.

“Good to have him back out there,” Kingsbury said. “Hopefully he progresses to the point where we can get something out of him Sunday. I don’t know to what extent yet.”

Regardless if Moore gets the green light or not, the Cardinals will likely need to add another pass-catching body or two through the practice squad.

Andre Baccellia is a likely candidate to be elevated since he’s seen time in all three games so far this season.

But if Arizona is looking to add more height to the position group, it could turn to 6-foot-4 Javon Wims, who is the tallest among the remaining practice squad WRs in Stanley Berryhill (5-foot-9) and C.J. Board (6-foot-1).
