Seven Charleston-area restaurants were recognized on Tripadvisor's latest Best of the Best Restaurants for 2022 list, giving the Holy City more nominees than any other city in the country.

Halls Chophouse’s Charleston location rang in at No. 5 on the fine dining list, sliding down two spots from its No. 3 ranking in 2021.

Joining Halls Chophouse — which counts four South Carolina locations and another in Nashville — on that list was Circa 1886 Restaurant (No. 13), Peninsula Grill (No. 18) and FIG (No. 19).

Lahaina Grill in Lahaina, Hawaii, earned the top ranking.

This comment came with Halls' ranking: “All accolades are entirely deserved. Everyone truly strives to provide the best service possible. And they succeed absolutely! Ambiance, service, food—everything is a 10!”

It's worth noting that the exact same description of Halls came alongside its No. 3 ranking last year

According to Tripadvisor, an online travel and booking company, "The 2022 Best of the Best Restaurants are calculated based on the quality and quantity of reviews and ratings for restaurants on Tripadvisor collected from July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022, specific to each award subcategory, as well as an additional editorial process."

Tripadvisor named award winners in six subcategories as part of its latest list: Fine Dining, Everyday Eats, Quick Bites, Date Night Restaurants, Picture-Perfect Restaurants and Hidden Gems, new this year.

Each category featured the top restaurants in the world, while five of the six had United States-specific lists.

Charleston stacked up more honors than any other U.S. city with seven.

Queology (No. 9) and Acme Lowcountry Kitchen (No. 14) were named on the Everyday Eats list, while Circa 1886 also landed on the Date Night Restaurant list at No. 6.
