UFC president Dana White explains the promotion’s decision to release Aspen Ladd from the promotion.
Dana White Explains Aspen Ladd Release
It was reported earlier this week that Ladd was released from the promotion due to several weight misses.
Dana White addressed the release in a post-fight press conference following the DWCS Season 6 finale.
White called Ladd a “talented’ fighter but admitted that her multiple weight misses could not be ignored.
“We tried to work with her – she’s a great kid,” White said (via MMA Fighting). “It’s never fun when you have somebody who’s actually talented – she’s a talented fighter. But part of the job is making weight.”
In her latest outing, Ladd missed weight by two pounds in a fight with Sara McMann.
Her misses at bantamweight even resulted in the California State Athletic Commission suspending her license to compete at bantamweight.
She is required to submit medical documentation before being green-lit to fight at 135 pounds again.
“She’s not made weight so many times, it had to happen,” White said. “Not something you want to do, but something that had to be done.”
Ladd herself has not commented on her release as of this writing. She earned a record of 4-3 throughout her run with the promotion.
