Georgia Tech is looking for a new football coach.

News broke Sunday that Geoff Collins was out and those reports were confirmed by the school Monday.

Numerous names have been linked to the opening in recent days.

ESPN college football reporter Pete Thamel, however, believes there are 2 candidates who make the “most sense.”

Most notable as it relates to the SEC is Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, a former Yellow Jackets assistant. The other name is Coastal Carolina head coach, Jamey Chadwell.

“I think the two names that make the most sense at Georgia Tech are Jamey Chadwell, who’s had unbelievable success at Coastal Carolina,” said Thamel on ESPN’s ‘College Football Live,” per 247Sports. “He also brings an option element back to Georgia Tech, which had a lot of successes in the past. And then there’s former Yellow Jacket assistant Bill O’Brien, obviously the former Houston Texans coach, the OC at Alabama.”

Thamel also mentioned former UAB coach Bill Clark and former BYU and Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall as names that could emerge.

Mendenhall, who resigned last December after 6 seasons at UVa, coached in the ACC’s Coastal Division, where Georgia Tech resides.  He was 36-38 overall with the Cavaliers but 99-43 in 11 years at BYU.
