Fans first got a tease about the new Paramore track in mid-September, after the band shared a short, unofficial clip of “This Is Why" via cryptic Discord and TiKTok messaging, as well as album artwork on members Hayley Williams, Taylor York, and Zac Farro's personal social media accounts, and a mysterious schedule featured prominently on the band's website.
Already being hailed as the Nashville-based trio’s most exciting era, Paramore have also announced the release of their long-awaited sixth studio album, This is Why, set for release on February 10 2023 via Atlantic Records, featuring 10 new songs and cover art shot by Zachary Gray.
Williams says, “'This Is Why' was the very last song we wrote for the album. To be honest, I was so tired of writing lyrics but Taylor convinced Zac and I both that we should work on this last idea. What came out of it was the title track for the whole album. It summarizes the plethora of ridiculous emotions, the rollercoaster of being alive in 2022, having survived even just the last 3 or 4 years. You’d think after a global pandemic of f***ing biblical proportions and the impending doom of a dying planet, that humans would have found it deep within themselves to be kinder or more empathetic or something.”
The music video was directed by Turnstile’s Brendan Yates and filmed in Malibu, CA last month. Speaking on the video and collaboration, Williams says, “It was so rad working with Brendan. I’ve known the Turnstile guys for a little while and was so psyched to have our worlds collide in this way. There’s a cool kinship between the way our bands do things... Hopefully we will get to play shows with them at some point,”
“We wrote and tracked something we loved and it actually surprised us,” Williams said, revealing the band was back in action back in January. “We kept joking it was all downhill from that point, but thank God we’ve been surprised a lot throughout this whole thing”
Hayley added, “Our output has always been all over the place and with this project, it’s not that different… but some things have remained consistent from the start. 1) More emphasis back on the guitar, and 2) Zac should go as Animal as he wants with drum takes.”

Kicking off on October 2, Hayley & Co. are hitting the road for a run of 12 special North American performances, produced by Live Nation, marking the band’s first trek since 2018.
Additionally, fans can see them at Austin City Limits, When We Were Young, and Mexico's Corona Capital festivals, but according to a press release, the theater shows promise to offer a "once in a lifetime opportunity" to see Paramore "in a range of intimate venues."
