IN THE NEWSROOM PHIL REED 40/29 NEWS A DISTRICT JUDGE DID áNOT APPROVE A SETTLEMENT AGREED TO BY THE HUNTSVILLE SCHOOL BOARD. THIS WAS IN A LAWSUIT OVER HOW THE DISTRICT HANDLED A SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATION. JUDGE TIMOTHY L. BROOKS SAID HE NEEDS TO RECONSIDER THE SETTLEMENT AND MAKE SURE IT IS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE MINOR AT THE CENTER OF THE CASE. A former Huntsville City School District superintendent and a former middle school basketball coach are facing charges of failing to report accusations of sexual abuse on a district sports team. Audra Kimball, the former superintendent, and Kaleb Houston, the former coach, each face a charge of failure to notify by a mandated reporter in the first degree, Prosecuting Attorney Matt Durrett said Wednesday.The charges stem from sexual abuse allegations among boys on the district's junior high basketball team.A district judge last month did not approve a settlement in a federal lawsuit over how the district handled the allegations. Our reporting on the lawsuit is in the video player above.Durrett said other school district personnel involved in the incident are also being investigated.The charge is a misdemeanor, and so Kimball and Houston are being notified about it rather than being arrested and booked into jail, Durrett said.A court date has been set for Oct. 6.
