Manager Dave Roberts made headlines prior to the start of the season when he guaranteed the Los Angeles Dodgers would win the 2022 World Series.

Roberts’ bold prediction quickly spread, and oftentimes without his caveat of the Dodgers starting rotation needing to remain healthy.

While the pitching staff has dealt with myriad of injuries this year, the Dodgers still have the best record in baseball and look poised to win a second World Series in the last three season, and Roberts is sticking with his guarantee.

“I’m not voiding it. I am not voiding it,” answered Roberts when asked if he wanted to take back his World Series prediction due to the amount of injuries within the Dodgers starting rotation.

“I still believe that regardless of what’s transpired this year with our pitching, we have enough talent to prevent runs. I think it’s 11 games in October that we’ve got to win. I still stand by that. Thank you for asking.”

Roberts maintained a previous stance earlier this season when asked if he regretted being so bold and confident with the guarantee.

Among the key contributors currently sidelined are Walker Buehler, Tony Gonsolin and Dustin May. Clayton Kershaw has also missed time due to multiple back injuries that kept him out of action for nearly a month.

Buehler of course is out for the year after undergoing Tommy John surgery but Gonsolin should be back for the final stretch of games in the regular season, and May could return for the National League Division Series.

Dodgers make MLB history with 106 wins

With their win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, the Dodgers clinched the top seed in the National League and made MLB history.

The win was their 106th of the season, which tied the Dodgers franchise record for most in a single season. L.A. previously had 106 wins in the 2019 and 2021 seasons, making this the third straight full season the team has reached that mark — a first in MLB history.

“It’s amazing,” Roberts said. “I didn’t realize that. You’re looking at almost 200 years of baseball, speaks to the consistency, excellence and standard that we’ve set here at the Dodgers.

“It takes a lot of people to accomplish what we’ve done over parts of the last four years. There’s a lot of people that deserve the credit.”
