1 killed, 1 wounded in West Orange shooting

One man was killed and another wounded Tuesday afternoon when shots rang out in a West Orange neighborhood, authorities said.

Corington Valentin, 21, of Newark, was shot about 3:20 p.m. in the 100 block of Watson Avenue, according to acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and West Orange Police Chief James Abbott.

Officers responding to a report of shots fired found Valentin and another man had been shot.

Valentin died at 11:37 p.m. at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. The other victim, who was not identified, survived the shooting, authorities said.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
