Carbondale man facing several charges after foot chase with police

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A Carbondale man faces charges after police received a call of someone walking with a firearm.

Marlin Brown, 44, of Carbondale faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of weapons, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, armed habitual offender, cannabis trafficking, aggravated resisting a peace officer, criminal damage to property and violation of bail bond.

Carbondale police officers responded to the 1100 block of East College Street on Sept. 25 at 7:49 a.m. after receiving a report of someone with a firearm.

Officers found the suspect who avoided officers by walking away, according to the Carbondale Police Department.

The officers ordered the suspect to stop, but he ran away on foot.

Officers arrested Brown after a brief foot chase.

Police say Brown was in possession of a handgun, illegal amounts of illegal cannabis and items consistent with the sale of drugs.

Brown was out on bond for firearms offenses.

He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

Police say the investigation is active and ongoing.
