AMC’s ‘Interview With The Vampire Renewed For Season 2 Ahead of Series Premiere

Clearly, AMC’s new take on Interview With The Vampire doesn’t suck. Ahead of the series premiere on October 2, AMC has announced that Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire has already been renewed for a second season. And not only that, the second season will head the action over to Europe. Interview With The Vampire: European Vacation, anyone?

“Bulgaria. Romania. Paris. (Ah Paris!) San Francisco. New Orleans. Dubai,” showrunner Rolin Jones said via a press released provided to Decider. “The writing staff of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire is honored, humbled, and hungry to add more stamps to our vamps’ passport books. All praises be to our fearless network, we shall endeavor not to screw it up.”

Clearly, the Anne Rice universe of books is extremely important to AMC. With The Walking Dead finishing its run in a few months time (though multiple spinoffs are in the works), and Better Call Saul wrapping up the Breaking Bad universe, AMC is left without a marquee show. So not only did AMC snag the rights to 18 of Anne Rice’s books, but in addition to the AMC/AMC+ airing Interview, they’re also soon debuting an adaptation of the loosely related The Mayfair Witches to AMC+, starring Alexandria Daddario and Harry Hamlin.

“The opportunity to revisit the passionate and shocking world of Louis, Lestat and Claudia is irresistible,” Mark Johnson, who is producing the overall Anne Rice universe, added. “We will happily walk through the doorway that AMC has so kindly opened for us and deliver a season two that takes full advantage of the wonders bestowed upon us by Anne Rice.”

Like the first season, the second season of Interview will run eight episodes, and stars Game of Thrones‘ Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac, the titular vampire being interviewed by Eric Bogosian’s journalist Daniel Molloy. In flashbacks, we meet iconic vampire Lestat de Lioncourt, played by Sam Reid, as well as their maniac teen vampire ward Claudia, played by Bailey Bass. As well as the main cast, but Johnson and Jones will be returning for the Europe-set season.

“The scope and breadth of this show, and what Mark and Rolin have delivered, is just stupendous,” Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios, said. “They have rendered the rich and vibrant world of Anne Rice’s Interview in a wonderful way, and we’re incredibly proud. From the set build, to production design, costumes and more — no detail was overlooked. This stellar cast deliver powerful performances that emotionally connect us to these characters and their humanity. We look forward to sharing the final product of this extraordinary effort with audiences in just a few short days and are thrilled that this story will continue. This is only the beginning of an entire Universe featuring enthralling stories and characters that capture the spirit of Anne Rice’s amazing work.”

In addition to the second season, AMC also announced they’ll be launching an accompanying, weekly podcast, appropriately titled Interview with the Vampire Podcast, hosted by “writer/comedian/vampire-enthusiast Naomi Ekperigin.” The podcast will, of course, recap episodes, include interviews and behind-the-scenes story, and most intriguingly will “take a deep dive on the history of the vampire genre with horror experts sharing how the vampire lore has changed and morphed over time.” A preview episodes of the podcast is available today, with new episodes dropping weekly following airings of Interview with the Vampire.

Interview with the Vampire premieres Sunday, October 2 at 10:06pm ET on AMC, with new episodes streaming a week early on AMC+.
