After making landfall as a powerful Category 4 hurricane, Ian weakened into a tropical storm as it made its way across Florida Wednesday night, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Late Thursday, Ian became a hurricane again as it heads toward landfall in South Carolina Friday, according to the latest NHC advisory.

The storm is expected to bring life-threatening flooding, storm surge and gusty winds across Georgia and the Carolinas, with impacts to the Savannah area expected on Friday.

On Tuesday, Gov. Brian Kemp issued a state of emergency ahead of the storm.
