"We just want a clean place to live in."

Galleria Manor, a Smyrna, GA, apartment complex for senior citizens, has been the subject of scrutiny from several of their residents. Among the complaints are torn carpets, roaches, and overflowing trash cans.

One resident told Channel 2′s Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell, “We don’t want them to come after us. We don’t want to be evicted.” The complex’s occupants have asked to keep their names, voices, and faces hidden, out of fear of repercussions from Galleria Manor.

The neighbors are saying several days go by without the trash being emptied. One exclaimed, “We have to take our own trash out. We have people who are in wheelchairs and walkers.”

When asked about the living conditions by Channel 2, Galleria Manor had plenty of excuses for the filthy premises. Management claims the maintenance supervisor quit without warning and that pest control is available on a weekly basis. They also say that the complex has employees who check on the buildings’ cleanliness every day.

But residents disagree, declaring that they have long complained without any change. “We just want a clean place to live in. These are our final years. Our golden years are filthy.” wsbtv.com
