Robert Cormier, Actor who Appeared in ‘Heartland’ and ‘Designated Survivor,’ Dead at 33

Robert Cormier, an actor on the Canadian drama Heartlandhas died. He was 33.

Cormier sustained injuries from a fall and died in an Ontario hospital on Friday (Sept. 23), his sister Stephanie told The Hollywood Reporter.

In his obituary, Cormier’s family remembered his as “an athlete, an actor, and a great brother,” sharing, “He had a passion for helping others and was always looking to achieve more. He enjoyed movie nights with his family, and looked up greatly to his father.

“He impacted many people throughout his life whether it was family, teammates and friends,” his obit continues. “Rob’s memory will live on through his passion for art and film; as well as his three sisters who meant the world to him.”

Cormier’s film and television career began in 2008, when he booked his first credit, but his major break came in 2016, when he appeared on an episode of Designated Survivor as Petty Officer Denton.

He went on to appear in Bizarre Murders and Ransom before scoring a recurring role in Shudder’s Slasher, in which he played Kit Jennings. Before appearing on Heartland, Cormier played Winston in two episodes of the Neil Gaiman series American Gods. At the time of his death, Cormier had three upcoming projects, all of which are in post-production, according to IMDb: sci-fi thriller Transmission: Vol. 1, drama The Intersection and a short titled The Antagonist.

Up TV, the network that airs Heartland, posted a tribute to Cormier on Instagram Tuesday (Sept. 27), mourning the actor after he appeared in a 2021 episode of the series.

“Robert Cormier, aka Heartland’s Finn, was an amazing talent, gone too soon. We are deeply saddened to learn of his passing,” they shared. “Our sincere condolences go out to his friends, family, and co-workers.”

Cormier is survived by his parents Robert and Lisa, his sisters Brittany (Derek), Krystal, and Stephanie, his grandmother Joanne, and aunts, uncles and cousins, according to his obituary.
