In Lexington County, a group of leaders is making a big impact.
This month's Jefferson Award going to one program that never stops putting others first and making their county an even better place.
Since 1994 Leadership Lexington County has changed the lives of many.
This year the 27th class is no different!
They've put in the work all year -- raising money and getting a game plan in place to help out our friends at Dream Riders.
"Today is exciting for me," Jennifer Stoudemire with Dream Riders said. "LLC is doing two projects that needed to get done."
Each year LLC welcomes a new class.
Painting a fresh start -- and building new opportunities -- with a service project for one organization in the area -- while also learning how the county works.
"We have got bankers, I'm an insurance agent, people that work for the county, nurses, literally from all different walks of life, we come together we bring in our expertise," said Gary Blight with Leadership Lexington County.
"When we look behind the scenes at what it takes to make things happen, we give our opinion and we work together."
For more than two decades the program has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars -- for non-profits in Lexington.
This year's class is no different.
They're focusing on Dream Riders a non-profit that teaches those with special needs the benefits of equine-assisted activities a program that truly changes lives.
"Our first time to come out here and see it to figure out what we were going to do we got to see some of the therapy sessions going on and if you want to see something pull at heartstrings just to see the joy going on here and the therapy -- it makes you want to go out and work," said Blight.
The 27th class has raised 63,000 dollars this year.
A new bathroom on blueprint -- along with run-ins for two horses.
"We have two that can't go in a stall so that will keep them healthier and cut down a little work on me," said Stoudemire.
While putting boots to the ground and brushes to wood relationships are built among these leaders.
"The great thing about LLCs s that you do become friends with them and relationships that won't just last for the year," said Blight.
"It will be someone I want to lean on in years' time. Its relationships built that will go on forever."
The program is looking for members of their 28th class!
