DOVER – 2022 was another great year for area youth involved in the 4-H program, with Saturday's small animal sale at the Tuscarawas County Fair raising more than $147,000.

That includes $16,000 for the grand champion broilers.

The broilers, exhibited by Chett Troyer, were purchased by TCM Waterproofing. The company also purchased the grand champion broilers in 2021.

"My two children took broilers in 4-H and very much appreciated the buyers support, so I want to give back," TCM owners Tom and Miriam Jones told The T-R. "God has blessed our business, and we want to be a blessing to the community."

Kiersten Heckel, educator, 4-H youth development, with the Tuscarawas County Extension Office, said, "The sales were fantastic. We have amazing community support."

She added, "It was just a good year, despite having fewer animals."

Fair board member Doug Wills was pleased with last week's fair.

"We started out a little slow at the beginning of the week, but every day just got better," he said. "The midway was just phenomenal, attendance on the midway, particularly Friday and Saturday night. I've been on the fair board a long time, and it was just wall-to-wall people.

"People really seemed to enjoy the rides, and the fair board put a lot of effort into selecting the best ride company in this part of the United States. It's proving to be very beneficial because the people really seemed to enjoy the rides and the vendors."

Durant Amusements provided the rides.

The grandstand was nearly full for Saturday's truck and tractor pull, and rain on Sunday didn't keep people away from the demolition derby, he said.

Wills was in charge of the Band-O-Rama on Sept. 20. He said the feedback from the event was phenomenal. The public enjoyed it, band members said it was a lot of fun and the grandstand was nearly full.

"We couldn't be happier at this point," he said.
