R.P. FUNDS REMAIN. THE TRIAL IS DELAYED FOR TWO FORMER LAPD OFFICERS CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO THE DEATH OF BREONNA TAYLOR. JOSHUA JAYNES AND KYLE MEANEY APPEARED IN FEDERAL COURT TODAY. THEY’RE ONE OF FOUR FORMER OFFICERS FACING CIVIL RIGHTS AND OBSTRUCTION VIOLATIONS. PROSECUTORS SAY THE PAIR USED FALSE INFORMATION TO GET A SEARCH WARRANT FOR TAYLOR’S APARTMENT IN MARCH OF 2020. SHE WAS SHOT AND KILLED BY OFFICERS DURING THAT RAID. JAMES AND MEANS TRIAL SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER. BUT IN COURT, FEDERAL PROSECUTORS AND THE DEFENSE ATTORNEYS SUGGESTED DELAYING IT TO REVIEW THE VOLUME OF EVIDENCE. IT LOOKS LIKE IT’S GOING TO BE AT LEAST A YEAR BECAUSE I THINK THE TRIAL IS SET IN AUGUST OF NEXT YEAR. AND THE INDICATION WE GOT TODAY WAS THE GOVERNMENT DOESN’T WANT TO PROCEED ON THIS TRIAL UNTIL AFTER THE HANKINSON TRIAL HAS CONCLUDED. The trials for two former Louisville Metro Police Department officers charged in connection with the death of Breonna Taylor will be delayed to next year. Joshua Jaynes and Kyle Meany were in court on Wednesday.Federal prosecutors say they knowingly approved a falsified no-knock search warrant for Taylor’s apartment.The search, and Taylor's death, happened in March 2020.The Department of Justice is asking a judge to seal evidence in the case. On Wednesday, a judge called the case "complex," citing 65,000 documents, 300,000 pages, dozens of video/audio recordings and more material on the way that must be reviewed. They were scheduled to stand trial on Oct. 11, but on Wednesday, a status conference hearing was scheduled for Feb. 21, signaling a delay in the trial.A new date has not been set. The trial for a third officer charged, Brett Hankison, was also delayed. His was scheduled for Aug. 21, 2023.
