N.J. man sickened after Walgreens gave him wrong medication, lawsuit says

An Ocean County man has filed suit against a Walgreens in Toms River saying the store’s pharmacy gave him the wrong medication, which caused him to suffer serious and permanent side effects.

Robert J. Adamski, 54, claims in court papers he went to the store on Route 37 West on Sept. 8, 2020, to pick up a prescription for Brilinta, a blood-thinning drug that helps prevent clots, states the suit, filed Aug. 26 in Superior Court of Ocean County.

But Adamski, of Toms River, says the store gave him the wrong medication and it made him sick, the suit states.

“The prescription provided to him by (Walgreens) was not Brilinta, but another pharmacological medicine not prescribed to plaintiff by his treating physician,” the suit states.

When contacted on Monday, Adamski’s attorney, James A. Maggs of Wall, declined to name the medication his client was allegedly given and refused to answer questions about the lawsuit.

A spokesperson for Walgreens did not respond to voicemails and emails seeking comment on the suit.

The lawsuit states Adamski suffered “serious, painful, permanent, and disabling injuries” as a result of taking the unknown medication. The suit alleges Adamski has been unable to work.

In addition to Walgreens, the lawsuit names as defendants the pharmacy’s workers and assistants, alleging they were careless and reckless filling the prescription.
