FLINT – Here are this week’s Flint-area teams that are trending up after Week 5 as well as the local Power Rankings.
Goodrich
Since losing their opener to powerful Frankenmuth, the Martians have won four in a row and allowed 13 points in that stretch. Their 42-7 win last week ended Corunna’s hopes for an unbeaten season. Corunna had posted back-to-back shutouts before losing to Goodrich.
New Lothrop
The Hornets are unbeaten in five games and have been on a tear defensively with three consecutive shutouts. They’ve allowed a total of 27 points all season. That’s an average of 4.2 per game and you know what they say about defense winning championships.
Hamady
The Hawks are averaging almost 53 points per game after beating Beecher 61-20 last week. They’ve got a battle of unbeatens looming in two weeks when they face Charlotte.
North Branch
The 74 points the Broncos put up against Hamtramck last week were the most by a Flint-area team this season. On the other side of the ball, they’ve allowed 27 points all season.
Durand
The Railroaders (5-0) have allowed a total of six points the last two weeks and are off to their best start since 1982. A victory over unbeaten Gladstone this week could set up a showdown with New Lothrop in Week 8.
