JV Purple wins, 30-12

The Jacksboro Tiger’s JV Purple squad used a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to pull away and beat the host Henrietta Bearcats, 30-12, Thursday, Sept. 22.

After Thursday’s match, both teams are now 4-1.

Nathan Rockey picked off a Henrietta passandreturned it 53 yards for a pick six. Rockey added the conversion for an 8-0 lead barely two minutes into the contest.

The Tiger defense, led by Eric Pizana and Balderama held its own, forcing a punt.

Later, Balderama runs for a first down set up a 65-yard scoring toss from QB Wyatt Gavit to Rockey. The conversion was good with 4:16 left in the half.

A Tiger punt set up by bad snaps allowed Henrietta to get the ball back with 1:26 to go in the half.

Henrietta drove inside the 20 but Rockey broke up the conversion pass to keep the score 16-6 at the half.

The squads exchanged turnovers for most of the third quarter before a halfback pass went for a Bearcat score to draw within 1612.

The Tigers went on an four-minute scoring drive to provide some breathing room. Balderama’s 11-yard run with 7:20 remaining extended the lead to 22-12.

A turnover on downs late set up the Tigers final score. Josh Salazar’s 17-yard run set up Gavit finding pay dirt from three yards out. Gavit and Cornish combined on the conversion with 1:06 to go.

Jacksboro will have the week off, and will travel to Eastland next week to open District 5-3A Division II play against the Mavericks. Gametime is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6.
