Annual Walk for Hunger event seeks participants

The Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Walk for Hunger 2022 will begin at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 9.

Registration begins at 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Heights Plaza in Natrona Heights, Harrison, near the UPMC Urgent Care. Walkers are encouraged to pick up a sponsor packet between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays at the Association of Churches office, 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights; collect sponsors to contribute to the Walk or donate $15 and walk. All participants are asked to bring one can of food or non-perishable item.

Walkers who collect between $100 and $199 will receive a free bowling pass. Those who collect $200 or more will receive two bowling passes. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Proceeds benefit the Association of Churches food bank, Produce to People and emergency hunger needs. For more information, call 724-226-0606.


HOPE Center shares wish list for clients

The Alle-Kiski Area HOPE Center, Tarentum, needs items for the clients that it serves.

Items needed include new hair dryers, brushes, combs, hair ties, deodorant, body wash, hand soap, underwear, slippers and pajamas. Household products being accepted include new brooms, mops, buckets and dust pans. Gift cards in $10 increments from Sheetz, GetGo, Giant Eagle, Community Market and Walmart are also welcome.

Donations can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the HOPE Center administration building, 500 E. Eighth Ave., Tarentum. Call 724-224-1100 when you arrive. The center offers supportive services to victims of violence and abuse.

Sunday : The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek will host, “Magic and Mystery at Crooked Creek,” from 1 to 5 p.m. at the center, 142 Kerr Road. Children 8 to 12 years old welcome. Parents should plan to drop off children at 1 p.m. and pick them up at 5 p.m. Children will go on a 1.5-mile hike and gather ingredients to create magic crystal wands to take home, play games and enjoy a snack. The weekly event is sponsored by Band Together Pittsburgh, Moondog’s and the Pittsburgh Shrine Center.

Harrison

Friday: Highlands Varsity Football Gridiron Club will host the last Food Truck night of the season from 4 to 8 p.m. before the Highlands vs. Mars game outside Golden Rams Stadium, Natrona Heights.
