Daisy Edgar-Jones has been a constant source of hairstyle inspiration since coming into the limelight as Marianne in the 2020 miniseries Normal People. Her fringe – the result of an impulsive DIY trim, so she revealed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon – garnered a cult following as strong as the silver neck chain worn by her costar's character Connell (played by Paul Mescal).
Fast forward to September 2022 and the actress has just given us another incentive to reach for the scissors, debuting this fresh-for-fall boxy bob. It's quite the contrast to her signature chest-length cut.
Edgar-Jones' new 'do is the work of famed London hairdresser George Northwood, the man behind many a celebrity trend (from Alexa Chung's tonged undone waves to Meghan Markle's loose 'messy' bun for her wedding night).
Sharing this picture from his Fitzrovia salon, Northwood's cut on Edgar-Jones looks both chic and cool styled with a centre parting, her now curtain fringe sweeping out towards her ears.
It's a perfect example of the 'boyfriend bob', autumn's most wanted haircut. A blunter version of the bob, which elegantly drapes around the face when parted, it can be styled straight or with texture to suit your hair type and mood.
Here Edgar-Jones' has a slight bend to it, no doubt achieved using Northwood's signature tonging technique, which he taught Chung in this video below.
The key to this nonchalant look, the hairdresser explains, is for each section to be tonged away from the face, to only heat the middle part (avoiding the roots and ends), and to pull the hair straight once released from the heat. All this avoids the waves becoming "party curls", as he puts it.
We can't wait to see how Edgar-Jones styles her bob next.
