Four buildings damaged by two-alarm fire in Nanticoke

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Four buildings, including two businesses, have been damaged in a fire that broke out early Wednesday morning in Luzerne County.

“When the first units arrived, we had a large amount of fire in the rear of the building. As a result of that, it extended into three more adjacent structures,” said Fire Chief Mark Boncal.

A scary scene for Kevin Ricci, a member of a family that woke up to the blaze.

“We heard somebody banging on our front door and I went down the hallway, opened the bathroom window, and saw a wall of flames coming at the house. I quickly yelled for my family to get up so we could get out of the house.”

They managed to get out of the house safely.

Glen Lyon Brothers Kielbasi and Hc + Max Salon Studio are now both displaced, the owners tell Eyewitness News the fire started in a smoker while they were smoking kielbasi for the Bloomsburg Fair.

“It did go to a second alarm. We needed to get some extra manpower in. It was a stubborn fire, especially with multiple buildings involved,” said Boncal.

One firefighter was injured and transported to a local hospital, he is said to be doing okay.
