State Route 83 reopens as other projects close roads across Wayne County

Wayne County's newest roundabout on state Route 83 is now open.

When one road re-opens, another closes.

State Route 83, also known as Burbank Road, north of Smithville Western Road reopened last week following weeks of roundabout construction, the Wayne County Engineer's Office announced.

Construction:West Salem Road to close Monday for culvert work

While that is welcomed news to area residents, more construction projects are slated around Wayne County.

Akron Road culvert replacement

State Route 585 between Honeytown and Smithville Western roads closed as of Monday, Sept. 26 for culvert replacement, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced last week.

The major commuting route is expected to be closed for 18 days, reopening Friday, Oct. 14.

Northbound drivers should detour via state Route 585 to Cleveland Road or Burbank Road in Wooster. Take state Route 604 east and south on state Route 57.

Southbound commuters should go north on state Route 57 and west on state Route 604 to either Cleveland or Burbank roads. Head south to hop back onto Akron Road.

West Salem Road culvert replacement

West Salem Road in Congress Township is closed to through traffic.

West Salem Road in Congress Township is closed between state Route 42 and Stratton Road starting Monday, Sept. 26 for five days to replace a culvert, according to a report from the Wayne County Engineer's Office.

The recommended detour is Route 42 to Jeffrey Road to Stratton Road and reverse. Detour signs will be posted.

Pavement projects

Repaving projects near Doylestown.

Two pavement projects have closed roads in Chippewa Township starting Monday, Sept. 26.

Wayne County Engineer crews are paving Calaboone Road between Clinton and Edwards roads.

Crews will also pave Hametown Road Black Diamond and Galehouse roads.
