DONATIONS FOR ASYLUM SEEKERS – More than 750 asylum seekers from Central and South America have arrived in Chicago on buses from Texas since Aug. 31. St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Homewood is serving as one of several ongoing collection sites for donations to assist the migrants. 

Needed items include new or like-new duffel bags, backpacks and small suitcases; new clothing, shoes and baby items; Band-Aids and Tylenol/ibuprofen; and phones, tablets and SIM cards. Drop-off times are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays, and 4 to 6 p.m. Fridays at the church, 18850 Riegel Road, Homewood.
